How to remove labels from glass jars and plastic bottles

How to Remove a Sticker from Plastic bottles:

Getting stickers off of plastic seems like it should be much easier than it is. But getting glue to stick to plastic is hard to do, leading most manufacturers to use high-strength adhesives to keep labels on. Whether you can’t remove a sticker or want to clean up the residue there are a variety of potential home solutions to try.

1. Use a hairdryer on high heat to loosen the adhesive. (45 seconds )
2. Try nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol. (The longer the react, the easier it will be to remove)
3. Wipe over the sticker with a disinfectant wet wipe.
4. Rub with cooking oil/olive oil. (12hrs)
5. Apply some table salt to the sticker to prevent the glue.
6. Rub an eraser over the sticker.
7. Rub with Dawn Dish-washing Liquid and soak for a while. (my favorite one)
8. Soak in hot water.

How to Remove a Sticker from Glass jars/bottles:

Glass jars from the grocery store make excellent food storage containers. Here is a simple way to remove those pesky commercial labels.

1. Blow-Dryer: Wash it and Use a hair blower, apply heat to the label, starting at one edge. Carefully peel up the label with one hand, while continuing to spread heat with the hair blower as the label comes up.
2. Dishwasher: Wash as normal in dishwasher. Label should be easier to remove after going through the dishwasher.
3. Hot Water: Soak in hot water for a while and Slowly peel off the label.
4. Bristle Brush: Soak in warm soapy water. Scrub the label off with a firm bristle dish brush.

Removing Leftover Adhesive:

1. Wipe peanut butter over the sticker residue.
2. Rub with the mixture of baking soda and olive oil. (The longer the react, the easier it will be to remove)

Tips:

• Pull the sticker at a shallow angle relative to the surface. (Opposite to the direction in which you are peeling.) This makes it more likely to come off cleanly.
• Use a toothbrush instead of a cloth for tricky bits of adhesive.
• Soak in a mixture of hot water and dish-washing liquid. Scrub with a brush to remove any lingering bits of your removal method, such as WD40
• Almost all of the chemicals mentioned will dissolve soft plastics like those found on three-ring binders.
• Blow-dryer method: Use care not to scorch the paper of the label – direct the heat to the glass jar, so that the adhesive softens before the paper burns.
• Blow-Dryer Method: Wear trousers, or use hot pads, to avoid burns.
• All heat-related methods: The jar will get hot – handle with care.
